Summer in the City

It's all going to be a bit of a Blur: Hyde Park from 4pm with the elder idle girl, culminating in a Britpop singalong to the best band of the 90s. But the heat, the heat.........

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be alright
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Was there ever a finer pop song to get you in the mood for a steamy gig?

  1. Thanks for reminding me that I have not yet heard any of my litmus-paper summer tunes this year, partly because I hardly ever stick the radio on these days.

I might do a post with some later :-)

  2. Indeed. The perfect pop song. Hope you all have a great time.

I will too will be venuring back and forth to good times I hope, in a couple of days. You know, just when we are expecting torrential rain :-/

The song that always reminds me of hot summer days is this one. In a rag top? Yeahhh:

    I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin in the sun
I see you walkin real slow and smilin' at everyone.

  4. One of the perma-tracks on the Tuscan phone apparatus.

Can you meantime snap up the blondie in the dark specs, clean her up a bit and pop her in the post for me please?

  5. A tiring week, that is far from over, but I'm relaxing with some pink stuff that is said to be wine and listening to Joy Division, having eaten a decent dinner of fish and rice and red things, with a decent green salad and some tortilla wraps, cooked by the Mrs Gruff, with a few of the strips of medium rare steak (a little overcooked for my taste) that she had prepared for herself.

I ought to drink up and go to bed soon as I have a long, long weekend ahead, and as everyone familiar with RSG ought to know: The Weekend Starts Here.

In the words of the late, great Louis Jordan: Yes, it's me and I'm drunk again (though not so much so).

  6. PS: 'Not so much so' was Dickens.

  8. That was a great song, and still gets an airing here!

I loved the guitar/keyboards riffs, the first one in the song was noisy, but the second one, near the end, was moody, and became the point when I realised I would always like keyboards, synths etc...

Oh, and onother keyboard point like that was in 'Here today', by The Beachboys...

  9. Sunshine Superman takes some beating....trouble is makes me want to drink Magners cider.....but then again so does anything by Wagner, The Prodigy, Syd Barrett and Enya.......I have tried sticking my fingers in my ears late at night until I can hear nothing and even that makes me want to drink Magners.

    Blur are a top band.....
Fav song is "This is a low"

  10. If you are all reading this you will have seen the idle mini-review above.

I sent her surface mail, Tuscan.

Great song, if a touch American, pip.

Joy Division, Wm Gruff? Better suited to dark winter evenings.

    Thanks for the review, scrobs.

You suffer from a sweet tooth, EV

  11. Ha ha, Idle you made me think of that awful moment when the big butch man you're with knows all the words to some cheesy american chick track: enjoy.

That clip always cracks me up.

I see Goergie Osbourne is being investigated for his expenses claims and both paries are going for the pink vote - ooer missus.
